Rosetta Stone is a mobile app for learning Spanish (and 24+ other languages). The rest of the app, access to browser version, Offline Learning, Cross-Device Synchronization, Priority Support require a LingoDeer premium membership. This is the most detailed analysis of any app review or best apps lists.

'Nationality'), Test Outs, Flashcards, Reviews are available for free. I haven’t used it, but iTalki (and other apps) let you connect with real speakers (I haven’t gone down this route because I have contact with native speakers for intercambios). For all courses in LingoDeer, everything in Alphabet, the first unit (e.g. Listening/watching films/TV and radio help a lot with understanding real speakers use the language you are learning for both audio and subtitles. But with Babbel, you have to pick your own route through its many series of lesson, which isn’t a problem that Duo has (because it has a much simpler path).īut all apps share the same failing: you really must practice with real speakers. Babbel actually succeeds in practicing grammar, which Duo fails badly at. At a higher level, its flaws show - weak algorithms for reinforcement (Anki can’t be beat for memorising vocabulary), and the strict emphasis on translation.

I use, and pay for, both Duolingo and Babbel I also use Anki.ĭuo does a good job of letting early learners feel like they are accomplishing something, and encourages you to keep at it, better than any other language programme.
